:DWell hello everyone! Maple syrup season is upon us, we've had a great cold winter which was very good for me as a songwriter. I managed to write, and get together 14 songs for my next cd. I'm going to call it something like "Just One More Song". I'm going to take a break and get outside and boil sap, have some beers, and naturally pancakes and maple syrup.
Some of the titles on the cd will be:
Hmm and this Beer
That Was Then
This Country Church
One thing about being on your own label, you can put any type of song on the cd. Some people really like a cd loaded with different types of music. What are your thoughts?
The downfalls of being on your own, is you have to promote everything yourself. Sometimes not too much happens as far as selling music. We need promotion, and songwriters are not that good at self promotion. Well some are, but I would say the majority are not.
So that's why I need to get out and boil some sap, and drink some beers with friends that help, or pop in, I need a little break from songwriting.
I'll keep you posted on both events.
Have a great March everyone,

:)Just a follow-up on my January work. I finally got all the Smiley Bates home taping edited. I will upload new videos periodically. At the moment there are not efficient hits.
I have been busy recording and writing new songs for a cd I think I may call: "One More Song". The song "Hmmm And This Beer" turned out pretty good. Hope you all like it. I have 6 songs completed for this cd, and I'm working on a 7th song. I sell my music through CD Baby http://cdbaby.com/all/fizermusic which I have control over the price I can charge. I try to make downloads as reasonable as possible. Other links to buy my music is: I Tunes https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/guy-leroux/id5044805
Unfortunately the cost of making music is very expensive, so thanks to people like you, songwriters can continue to produce and write songs. Most songwriters do not make enough money to cover their costs. I am one of those. But it's loving the craft, and the fans that keep us moving on.
So I want to thank those that support the indies.:D
Will be back in March for an update. Stay safe, listen to music, and keep healthy.;)

Well I hope this finds everyone happy healthy and not too much poorer after the Christmas Holiday Season. I myself spent enough on gifts, but also making sure they were useful. I'd like comments on how you spent your Christmas Holiday.
Three immediate projects I'm working on is getting another segment of the Home Taping of the Great Smiley Bates, a really great musician singer songwriter and gentleman.
My second songwriting project is finishing a song called: "Hmmm And This Beer". I am going back into the recording studio today, Friday the 3rd of January 2014.
My third songwriting project is a lyric I am working on I'm calling "NO ONE CAN TAKE AWAY". The title may change if later, I find it doesn't suit the song.
I also will try to get more songwriting tips out for those that are interested. Keep you posted, and keep me posted if you are interested.
I'll have more news for you no later than Feb. 2014

Hey, I'm assuming you're new at this, you've just learned how to play a new instrument, or you're a lyricist, and you've decided it's time to write a song. Maybe you just want to write as a hobby, it's all fun. Later on you may want to try and earn some money with your songs, and that's all good, and the best of luck, it's hard work.
There are many formats to use. I will not go into the Rap songwriting, because I don't know anything about it.
But in my opinion here are some basic principles or techniques to use:
Some people create the melody first, and others will write the melody as they write lyrics.
Title of your song should be catchy, and repetion is good.
Hook or Chorus should be catchy and memorable even after the song is over, remember "Achy Breaky Heart"?
Telling a story, should be interesting, and you want to hear the whole song, just like "The Coward of the County" by Kenny Rodgers.
Maybe you want to add a musical bridge to break up the song, that's your choice.
Some song formats to use are:
Some other formats to use are:
A OR: A-CHORUS
You are the writer you can use whatever you want. Tom T Hall and Gorden Lightfoot use the story line song with no bridge or chorus in some of their songs. There are many other combinations, but if you are a beginner, start simple. If you're a novice, maybe you can add more info to this blog. I'm just touching the very basics here.
Get a co-writer if you just write lyrics, or just melody, it's really mind opening. I really enjoy working with my co-writers.
Maybe next blog I'll continue writing about different techniques and things to do after you write your first hits.
