These are fan comments about Smiley Bates...enjoy!!

Hi Guy thanks for the email. As I stated in my post I met Smiley in the 80's and he invited my wife and I and our young son into his cabin near Bent River. I have been searching the internet about him to try and find out more information. I did notice that they talk about a cabin near the water and I was not sure if he also owned a cottage in the area of lake rosseau or if they are referring to his cabin when they speak of his remains. Have you ever been to his cabin in bent river it was and still is a beautiful setting. If you have any information that you can share with me it would be appreciated. I work in Whitby and didn't realize that he also lived and performed a great deal in Durham Region. As I am a little older any of the people I work with seem to have memories of h playing at the Spruce Hotel on Dundas St in Whitby. When I did meet him he mentioned that he had met John Lennon whom I am a fan of as well as the Beatles and I can only imagine how many friends and musicians may have visited him at the cabin in Bent River. Anyhow again anything u can send my way would be appreciated. Thanks Guy for all your posts and the time you have taken to make people more aware of a great Canadian performer. I remember him showing us his platinum records and being very proud. Hoping to hear from you soon from a fan...

9 months agoYes Sir...I'll give Smiley Bates a Two thumbs up! He was fantastic. I remember him well, he played in Tamwoth a couple of times years ago, at "The Fireman's Jamboree" in the '70's where I also sang. (but not with him) Great entertainer. He also played a fiddle made from a baseball bat....I'm sure you would remember that, when you were so close to him.I loved his singing and guitar in peace Smiley!....thanks for posting, I can't believe I found this on You Tube!
